Soprano Narea Son

In the 2025/26 season, Narea will appear as Nannetta (Falstaff), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte) and Ännchen (Der Freischütz) at the Hamburg State Opera, where Narea is currently a soloist ensemble member.

In the 2024/25 season, made her debut as Luisa Miller (Luisa Miller), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Micaëla (Carmen) and Das Lichte Mädchen (in the world premiere of Die dunkle Seite des Mondes by Unsuk Chin) at the Hamburg State Opera. She also made her house debut at the Korea National Opera in Seoul as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro).

As an engaged soloist member of the Hamburg State Opera, Narea appeared successfully in many roles including Norina (Don Pasquale), Marzelline (Fidelio), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro),  Lauretta (Il trittico),  Despina (Così fan tutte), Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Marzelline (Fidelio), Katze Ivanka (Katze Ivanka, World Premiere), Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos), Oberto (Alcina), Martha, Sorge and Soprano solo (Szenen aus Goethes Faust, alongside Christian Gerhaher), Snow White (Schneewittchen by Mitterer in the style of Humperdinck), and Ljusja (Moskau, Tscherjomuschki).

Narea sang Dafne (concertante, Il Nascimento dell’aurora by Tomaso Albinoni) at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2022, and the Baroque opera album Polifemo, in which she appeared as Nerea with Parnassus Arts Productions, was released in September 2023.

Her Asian appearances have also been acclaimed, including Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Seoul Metropolitan Opera in 2019, Pamina (Erzittre, feiger Bösewicht!, a new version of Die Zauberflöte by J. Harneit) at the Grand Theatre Shanghai in 2018, and Micaëla (Carmen) at the Poly Theater Shenzhen, Xi'an in 2024 and 2025.

In 2022, Narea was awarded first prize at the international singing competition Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

Through her passion for art songs, she has developed a creative partnership with the project of the pianist Burkhard Kehring, performing in his “Divan of Song” at the Heidelberger Frühling Festival, the Brahms Festival in Hannover, and Schloss Erbhof.

Narea Son received her Master’s Degree and Concert Exam in Opera from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She was a scholarship holder of the Hermann und Milena Foundation, the Körber Foundation, and the Oscar und Vera Ritter Foundation.

In addition to her studies, she took part in various master classes, including with Edita Gruberová, Cheryl Studer, Mariella Devia, Bruna Baglioni, Edda Moser, and Brigitte Fassbaender, as well as Joyce DiDonato at Carnegie Hall in New York, which was livestreamed on Arte TV.

She is currently an artist supported by the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation.
